However, you don’t have to buy expensive marketed products; the cold and wet sock method you apply when you have a cold will suffice. You wonder how cold, wet socks could help with a runny nose or a scratchy throat? You’ll be surprised, but this ancient method is very effective because it uses the body’s own protective mechanisms. Try this method during this autumn when the time of colds and flus arrives!
The wet-sock method
Haven’t encountered this method yet? It’s possible that your grandmothers used it in various forms when they looked after you while you were ill. This way of relieving a clogged nose and sinuses is very effective, it works particularly well in children, and above all it brings them overall calm and a full night’s sleep. In addition, this method helps not only with colds but also with relieving a blocked nose, with sinus or ear inflammations, migraine and insomnia. The advantage is that to apply this method you need nothing more than 2 pairs of socks, a basin and a freezer.
How to perform the wet-sock method
First prepare a pair of cotton socks, soak them around the feet area in cold water, wring them out by hand and put them in the freezer. Now prepare a hot bath in a basin. Hot must mean really the highest temperature you can tolerate. Immerse your feet from the ankle down into the hot water for 15–20 minutes and let them rest. After removal the feet should be warmed with a rosy skin color. At this moment put on the socks from the freezer and over the wet and cold socks put on a pair of dry wool socks and snuggle under the duvet.
Relieved nose and all-night healing sleep
What happens? Within a short time blood circulation is stimulated, blood moves to the lower part of the legs and this leads to the unblocking of the sinuses and the nose. This effect should occur within 30 minutes. Due to the body’s reaction it relaxes and a resting phase and a full night’s sleep follow, which is why this method is also recommended for migraine conditions. Often sweating also occurs, so it is advisable to change from wet to dry clothes during the night and continue resting. In the morning the socks should be completely dry and you should feel noticeably better. It is advisable to repeat this method for several days in a row until full recovery.
