Do you, like most Czechs, eat potatoes several days a week? And did you know that they can contain dangerous toxins that are harmful to your health? Eating such food can result in serious illnesses, and because we eat potatoes very often, you need to know which ones can negatively affect your health. You should check:
- color,
- spots.
Main signs that you should not eat potatoes
Of course we are not talking about potatoes in general, but only about certain pieces (or varieties). The first and very simple clue is the color of the skin. If the potato’s skin is green, you can throw it away immediately and you don’t even have to peel it. Do this even if you find a small green spot, otherwise you may have to deal with nervous system problems.
Dark spots found directly on the potato are also a cause for concern. Dark patches are a sign that the potatoes are becoming old and are slowly spoiling. At the same time, it can indicate that you are storing them improperly. This is especially true if these are ingredients you haven’t had at home for long. Whatever signs of spoilage you see on them, you should not consume them at all to be safe.
Other foods can also put you at risk
Not only potatoes can contain toxins. Eggs are among them. If, after breaking the shell, the egg white mixes with the yolk by itself, it’s a sign that there are toxins in it. You also need to be careful with baked goods. If you find even the smallest traces of mold on bread, never eat the rest of the bread, even if there is no mold on it yet. Remember that this can lead to the formation of cancer cells in the human body.
Strange smells
Your nose can help you a lot. If dry products, like popcorn or müsli, have a different smell than when opened, they can also pose a health risk. Don’t eat any of it and throw it away immediately. The most common place to find spoiled products is the home pantry. That’s where expired foods you have forgotten about are often stored.
