A clean washing machine is the basis for perfectly clean laundry. Too many people do not realize it, but that’s really the case. Leaving the washing machine without regular maintenance is a big mistake. Molds will form and spread in it, which cause small stains on clothes. And do you know what the best way to clean a washing machine is? Here are simple tips for cleaning individual parts of the washing machine and other tips for its maintenance.

How to clean the washing machine step by step

Mold, limescale and other things you do not see cause the clothes to be not perfectly clean and the machine to give off not only dirty but also foul-smelling odors. In addition, cleaning the washing machine is important to extend its lifespan. Today we look at several procedures you can perform when cleaning:

  • internal parts,
  • the filter,
  • the rubber seal.

Thoroughly clean the inside

In this way you should clean the washing machine at least once a month to avoid contamination. This will remove all stubborn spores, bacteria, old stains and mold. You will only need warm water to fill the drum and ½ a carafe of vinegar, ideally with alcohol content. The procedure is very simple. Anyone can do it and vinegar is cheap, so it will not cost you much.

Pour plenty of warm water into the drum and fill as much of the drum as possible. Add the vinegar, program a short cycle and let it complete fully. Open the washing machine and let it air and dry for as long as necessary. It is a very simple thing that will help you a lot. The temperature is up to you, but the ideal is to run a normal 40 degrees cycle.

Filter maintenance

With a clean filter your clothes will be cleaner and will not shed fibers. Therefore it is important to constantly keep it free of dirt so that the washing machine can function properly. How to do it? Unplug the power cable and turn off the washing machine. Check that it is completely empty. Turn the filter cap and pull it out. Manually remove fibers, paper, buttons and anything else that is in there.

Grab a screwdriver and turn it to remove the less accessible part. You must clean all parts. Put it back and close it very well. You do not have to do this every month, but once in a while it is good to take it out and check how things are. You should properly clean it once every quarter.

Don’t forget the rubber seal

This dirt can go unnoticed, but if it accumulates for a long time, the smell becomes unbearable. For maintaining the rubber seal you need 3 liters of water, lemon juice, a cup of hydrogen peroxide and a dry cloth.

Carefully remove the rubber seal and remember how you did it. Squeeze the lemons and put the juice into a bucket. Add three liters of water and the hydrogen peroxide. Fill a spray bottle with this mixture. After cleaning, spray the mixture and wipe with a dry cloth. Leave the lid open for an hour until it is completely dry. Repeat this procedure whenever you see it is necessary. It will vary with each washing machine.
