With autumn each year the season of flu and colds also arrives. It’s not easy to get rid of these illnesses, sometimes even strong medicines don’t help. But you can rely on old wives’ tips and recipes that have worked for several decades. A blocked nose, unpleasant cough, fevers – you can get rid of these ailments if you read the following article.
Salt rinses of the nose or throat are the most common method
A hot drink will help open the nasal cavities so you can breathe better. You will also avoid dehydration and overcome the first symptoms. Try adding a teaspoon of honey to hot tea. Wet socks can also help, as they reduce fever. This intensifies blood flow to the limbs and speeds up circulation. Proceed by soaking your feet in warm water, putting the socks into cold water, and before going to bed wringing them out and putting them on. Don’t forget to add, for example, woolen ones over the wet socks.
Nasal rinses are most often performed with a neti pot, which is gaining great popularity. It is also popular with small children who cannot yet be taught to blow their nose into a handkerchief. Just dissolve several teaspoons of salt and ¼ teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water. Then pinch one nostril and pour the solution into the other. Lean back and let the liquid pass through your nostrils. Repeat the procedure 2-3x a day until your nose is clear. Preventively, you can also rinse your throat with salt.
As with everything, good nutrition and vitamin intake also apply to the flu
Frozen peas or other vegetables can be used if you have a blocked nose. You can make a lemon drink that cleanses the body and gets rid of unwanted bacteria and viruses. This strengthens the immune system, which will better defend itself against the flu or a cold.
Relief will also come from using more pillows to prop up your head. You won’t sleep on a flat surface, which would cause you breathing problems. An important part of the diet is also sufficient vitamins C and D, which are responsible for the proper function of the immune system.
You can also try other tips:
- Try applying a menthol or eucalyptus ointment under your nose; breathing will improve
- Steam inhalation from hot water
- Try placing a cut onion near your head at night; it will clear your nasal cavities
An important fact is that during treatment doctors recommend not consuming sugar, milk, cheeses and sweeteners. All these ingredients suppress the body’s resistance. Instead, eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, and hydrate only with plain water or lemonade with lemon and a teaspoon of honey.
