How to protect yourself in the autumn season? This time favors not only illnesses such as the flu or tonsillitis, but this year has also brought us a new disease called COVID-19. What can each of us do for ourselves and those around us to prevent the spread of any infectious disease?
- Try to spend as much time at home as possible or avoid being among large numbers of people. Order as many things online as you can, attend as few cultural events as possible, arrange to work from home, and visit your doctor only in acute cases.
- Pay increased attention to personal hygiene. When you come home, wash your hands and limit intimate contact with other people, including handshakes, to a minimum.
- Take walks and ventilate! Fresh air is one of the best “disinfecting” agents. If the weather is unfavorable, exercise or relax comfortably at home.
- Keep distances of at least 1–1.5 meters, especially if you are not wearing a mask. Likewise, without a mask try to avoid sneezing or coughing, whether it is yours or someone else’s.
- Wear a mask in enclosed spaces or on public transport. However, remove it when you are out in the fresh air.
- Support your immune system. Eat fruit, drink herbal teas or infusions of ginger and calendula. You can also supplement any natural remedies with vitamins in capsule form.
- Communicate! This difficult time, which isolates each individual and minimizes their contact with others, can also bring psychological difficulties. Humans are social beings, so pick up the phone and call your parents, have a video conference with your friends, or exchange a few emails with your colleagues.
Try to find the positive in everything. This current time is hard for all of us, but it also brings something good. When was the last time you played board games with your children? When was the last time you cooked a romantic dinner with your significant other and ate it while watching a movie in the comfort of your home? When was the last time we all had so much time for ourselves?
