Cherry tomatoes are widely used in our kitchens, the reason is simple – they go with almost everything. Whether you’re in the mood for a great salad, a soup that fills you up, or you’re looking for something to snack on with buttered bread, a tomato is always a great choice. In addition, it is very healthy because it contains not only vitamin C, which is important for our immunity, but also other vitamins such as vitamin A, B1, B2, B6 and E. It is also rich in minerals, mainly copper, iodine, iron, calcium and potassium, which makes it excellent for supporting the treatment of urinary tract inflammation and cleansing the kidneys. With regular consumption it lowers cholesterol, the risk of heart attack and helps regulate blood sugar levels.

Homegrown tomato vs. store-bought

Surely you’ve noticed the difference between seasonal tomatoes from your own garden and those bought, which are available in supermarkets year-round. A homegrown tomato is soft and juicy with a pronounced flavor, whereas purchased ones tend to be firmer and often you can’t even tell you’re really eating a tomato. The difference is also noticeable in how long this vegetable stays fresh – a home-grown tomato starts to decompose after just a few days from being picked, while a store tomato can last you weeks, thanks to chemical sprays.

How to have the tastiest tomatoes from your own garden?

Growing them is not difficult and is suitable even for complete beginners. Seedlings can be bought at any garden center and then all you need to do is water them regularly. But if you want your tomatoes to have a perfect taste, you also need to fertilize them. You can find many types of fertilizers in hobby markets and drugstores, but if you want to fertilize organically and very cheaply, you can make your own miracle fertilizer. You’ll need only 100 g of yeast, 0.5 kg of sugar and water. Dissolve the sugar in 2.5 l of water and dissolve the yeast in a glass of lukewarm water. Mix both solutions and after the fermentation process is complete dilute with 10 l of water. Fertilize the plants and eagerly expect a rich and tasty harvest.
