Drinking cow’s milk is not among nutritional recommendations because it places too much strain on our digestive tract. We therefore look for a substitute, namely plant-based milks. There are quite a few on the market; just look around health food stores or online. Experts advise replacing cow’s milk with soy milk. If you drink it only occasionally, you are probably fine. But if you consume it regularly and in large amounts, there is one organ in your body that will not thank you for it. Below we list a few facts about what drinking milk can cause in your body and what risks you face.
What substances soy milk contains
Soybeans, from which the milk is made, contain hemagglutinin, a substance that creates blood clots in the body, which, as we know, damage the body. It also contains plant estrogens, aka phytoestrogens, which suppress hormone production. They can also lead to breast cancer and infertility. Those are things none of us want to experience. Foods made from soy contain toxic aluminum, which poisons our kidneys and nervous system and is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. You should also know that soy proteins are exposed to high temperatures during processing in order to produce textured vegetable proteins and soy protein isolate, which represent a serious health risk.
Harmful substances that damage our body
Scientific research has shown that consuming soy increases the body’s consumption of vitamin D and vitamin B12. Soy also contains isoflavones such as daidzein and genistein, which are substances that can cause breast cancer. Furthermore, and quite importantly, soy is very susceptible to disease, and therefore 99% of it is GMO. Again, an increased risk to our organism. In addition, soy products contain phytogen (phytates), which prevent the body from absorbing copper, iron, calcium, zinc, and magnesium. The unwanted substance carrageenan caused lesions, insulin resistance, and ulcers in laboratory mice. According to scientific studies, this suggests that in humans it may trigger colon cancer or gastroenteritis.
Which organ is most at risk?
It is clearly the thyroid gland. It is responsible for hormone production, for controlling insulin production in the pancreas, and thus for blood sugar levels. Its reduced function results in hormonal imbalance in the body, mood swings, irritability, and even hair loss. None of us should risk such problems by consuming soy milk.
