Cold limbs are a completely common thing in the winter months. However, if the problem persists even outside temperatures far below zero, it is a warning sign of poor blood circulation. Even in this case there is no need to panic; this problem can be fought!
Get it moving!
Just like the human body, the circulatory system needs movement. To kickstart it, ingredients that “warm” you will help. Such foods include chilli, Tabasco, hot spices, ginger or preparations containing Ginkgo biloba. The latter is particularly praised in the field of alternative medicine for its beneficial effects on the lymphatic system and the entire circulatory system.
Move your skeleton!
Movement is very important for proper blood circulation. Any sporting activity helps to start it. A more pleasant version of physical activity that helps circulation is using a sauna or taking a bath with scented oil. If you don’t have access to a sauna, try cold exposure, which can be done at home in the shower. A cold shower helps to get the blood flowing. In the lower part of the body a massage or wearing warm socks will also do the trick.
What helps in the summer months?
Winter months practically invite wearing gloves, stockings or fluffy socks. But let’s be honest, wearing gloves in August would look silly. The arrival of warm sunshine does not guarantee that the problem with cold extremities will disappear. However, even in the warmer part of the year socks are very useful. It is usually sufficient to add a new component to your pajamas – cotton socks. Another effective aid will be creams and gels that are specially designed to combat cold extremities.
One of the main causes of this problem is an unhealthy lifestyle. Lack of movement, smoking or caffeine slow the metabolism just as emotional imbalance or stress do. In some cases, however, the cause is far more serious problems that manifest precisely as cold extremities. These include, for example, thyroid disorders, migraine or arthritis.
