Our feet are exposed to enormous strain throughout the day. It obviously depends on our daily routine; some people don’t stop all day and others, on the contrary, relax for a large part of the day. But it’s good to realize that the health of our feet affects the overall health of the body. As a great prevention against illnesses we recommend trying homemade foot baths.
Choosing the right type of bath
First it’s appropriate to clarify what we expect from the bath. Do we want to get rid of swelling? Support blood circulation? Heal cracked heels? Or just make a nice moment for ourselves? Based on that we choose the additives from which we’ll make the bath. However, be careful not to accidentally add something to the bath that you know may trigger an allergic reaction for you.
To soften hard skin on the heels, a softening bath made of white clay works perfectly. In case of a cold it is recommended to use a cinnamon bath as supportive treatment. Baths with salt or with apple cider vinegar minimize swelling and support the flow of lymph in the lymphatic system. If you suffer from excessive foot sweating, try a bath based on a decoction of oak bark:
- 200 milliliters of oak bark decoction
- 60 grams of sea salt
- 5 drops of tea tree oil
Mix the above-mentioned substances in 3 liters of warm water. With regular practice of this bath, the desired effect should appear soon. In addition, it will also get rid of the unpleasant odors that often accompany excessive foot sweating.
Stick to a few rules
You can’t determine exactly how long you should leave your feet in the bath. Generally, however, it is recommended to be in the interval of 15-20 minutes. Make sure the water is warm enough but not too hot. You certainly don’t want to burn yourself unnecessarily. Test the oils and other ingredients you add to the bath first on a small patch of skin. This will help you avoid an allergic reaction.
Finishing home baths
You can try several procedures in succession at once. In the end, don’t forget to give the same attention to skin nourishment and treat it with a protective cream. The best results are delivered by creams designed specifically for the feet. Then you can simply lie back and relax with the good feeling that you have done something beneficial for the health of your body and soul.
