One of the major disadvantages of the winter months is that we are forced to dry clothes indoors because the outdoor temperature does not allow hanging them outside. Many people dislike it because the air in the apartment then becomes humid and heavy, the fresh scent of garments is different than usual, and moreover the drying time is much longer. According to a new Scottish study, it is not recommended to dry laundry in the apartment because increased humidity brings many problems:
- leads to the occurrence of various pests,
- is ideal for the growth of dust mites,
- mold growth,
- worsening of respiratory illnesses, allergies and asthma.
Surveys have also shown shocking figures. In one hundred British households, 87 percent of washed garments are dried indoors when the weather outside is dull. It is well known, however, that rainy and cold weather is typical for Britain. That means this happens for most of the year. Here it’s only during winter, but even so it amounts to four to five months each year. During this period you can, however, incorporate a simple trick into your routine that will help speed everything up.
The dryer is a possible solution
If you’re lucky enough to have a clothes dryer at home, you’re set for the whole year. If you don’t have one yet, but have the space and the means, you should definitely consider buying it. It is an investment, but your clothes will be better dried, you’ll remove excess lint, hair and dust. And you won’t have to iron as much.
Easy trick for fast drying
If you don’t have a dryer at home and don’t want to buy one, you don’t have to. Try a tried-and-true trick that can cut drying time of laundry by up to half! Simply place a dry towel next to the wet clothing you want to dry. It’s simply because the dry towel absorbs a lot of moisture from the other wet materials, so overall the clothes will dry faster than usual. You can thus look forward to the fact that although you will hang laundry indoors, it will be dry quickly and won’t be in the way for long.
