If it starts to freeze in winter, entrance steps, the sidewalk and driveways can turn into hazardous terrain. When you remove snow from these places, it usually won’t help you, maybe even make it worse, because you’ll reveal slippery ice. Instead of trying salting or a store-bought de-icer, prepare this three-ingredient solution that will help you immediately, easily and cheaply.

Simple solution

This mixture is easy and quick to make and at least as effective as any commercially available de-icer. And unlike purchased products, this one will cost you virtually no money, will never run out, and you’ll be able to get rid of ice in no time. To make it you only need three ingredients that you surely have at home.

  • 2 liters of hot water
  • 6 drops of dish soap
  • 60 ml of denatured alcohol

You will achieve a similar result using plain hot water, which will break up the ice and help you remove it. However, you will have to repeat this procedure. If you add dish soap and alcohol to the mixture, the effect will last much longer and you won’t have to worry about ice for a longer time.

Preparation

Pour all the ingredients into a large bowl, bottle or bucket and shake everything well. Pour the mixture onto the icy areas and watch it melt nicely. You will get rid of the ice within a few minutes and be able to walk comfortably, even when it’s freezing and there is snow and ice all around. Thanks to this simple method you’ll never hurt yourself on the way home again, and not only you but your whole family will be safe.

Especially for older generations this will certainly be welcome, because slippery steps can be a real challenge for them. It is precisely during winter that the most people end up in the emergency room due to accidents and car crashes caused by slippery surfaces. Applying hot water with dish soap and alcohol is an ideal way to spare yourself a broken leg or arm, a concussion and many other injuries.
