The winter season brings, besides the joy of freshly fallen snow cover and the sight of a snow-covered landscape, also a whole range of inconveniences. One of the most common is boots soaked from snow that melted after returning to warmth. What to do to prevent the unpleasant odor that often appears in this case?

The market offers a large number of various sprays and other gadgets that will immediately rid your shoes of odor. However, most similar preparations contain a significant amount of chemical substances, including artificial perfumes, which are not the best for human health. You can prevent odor caused by moisture even without them. How? It’s easy.

Get rid of moisture

First, insert paper or another fabric that absorbs moisture into the shoes. Newspaper is suitable for this purpose. Place the stuffed shoes in a warm and dry place – to speed up the process and ensure its effectiveness – where we leave them until they are completely dry.

To prevent further soaking, apply beeswax or another similar greasy preparation to the surface of the footwear. Do not forget the area around the seams. After carefully applying the protective layer, wipe the shoe with a cloth. This way we achieve the formation of a protective coating that, with its water-repellent properties, prevents water from soaking into the material.

The material from which the shoes are made also plays a significant role. If your footwear is made of leather or its imitation, castor oil will also serve you well for this purpose.

Among the many other inconveniences typical of the winter season is the salt used to grit roads or sidewalks. Besides preventing the formation of dangerous ice, it leaves white marks on footwear. Getting rid of them is not easy. What to do with them? Vinegar with water helps. Mix these two items together and wipe the stains with the resulting solution.
