Toxins and chemicals are everywhere around us. No matter how we try to defend against them, we cannot completely protect ourselves. They are contained in the foods we eat, the clothes we wear, and also the environments where we live and work. Worst of all, we are not safe even in our own homes. Workplaces and restaurants have certain guidelines, such as safety measures, that must be followed to ensure employee safety – but what about at home?
Pots and pans with non-stick surfaces
We all use non-stick cookware because it’s easier to use and clean, so why not use it? It has been found that when a pan or pot is heated, the non-stick coating begins to break down at the molecular level and releases numerous toxic particles and gases based on fluorides, most of which are carcinogenic. Instead of using this toxic cookware, use ceramic versions; they are much safer.
Artificial sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners are generally considered „safer“ version of sugar. In reality, however, they are worse than sugar itself – or at least most of them are. Most of these sweeteners contain:
- Sorbitol – the intestines cannot fully digest it, so you feel bloated, suffer from flatulence, and sometimes even diarrhea.
- Acesulfame K – may affect pregnancy, lead to cancer, and may be carcinogenic.
- Aspartame – is notoriously linked to a component associated with skin cancer and can be fatal for those with phenylketonuria.
- Saccharin – is indigestible, is excreted unchanged by the liver, and leads to bladder cancer.
Plastic bottles and food containers
Plastic containers are full of toxic chemicals that leach into the foods stored in them and then into our system. One of these harmful chemicals is bisphenol A. Instead of using plastic bottles and containers, choose metal or glass ones.
Air fresheners
Although they fill your home with a pleasant scent and eliminate unpleasant odors, recent research has shown that air fresheners are dangerous to your health. They are known to release vapors that can have a worse overall health impact than cigarette smoke. They can cause respiratory problems and hormonal imbalance.
Commercial cleaning products
It is no surprise that common cleaning products we use are packed with chemicals and toxic additives. They can cause respiratory problems, allergies, and other illnesses.
