My urine foamed a lot. At first I didn't pay much attention to it, but now I know this.

One of the normal human needs is to pee. But what can urine say about your health? The question arises whether it is normal to have bubbles in urine.
This can have several causes and let’s look at them together. First we look at causes that are harmless:

Strong stream

If your bladder is full, there is greater pressure and therefore the stream is stronger when urinating. That is why you then see bubbles and the urine foams.

Dehydration

If we are dehydrated, lack of fluids can cause urine to foam. The reason is the concentration of chemical substances, which is higher in this case.

Stress

Stress is associated with everyday life, but it can also affect this: if we are under stress, our kidneys do not function as they would under normal conditions and as a result proteins called albumin can get into the urine, which leads to foaming.

Pregnancy

This is a nearly similar reason. During pregnancy the kidneys have more work and because of proteins in the urine this leads to foaming.

Let’s look at which causes are more serious.

Diabetes

Diabetes chronically affects kidney function. Because of elevated blood sugar levels, blood vessels in the kidneys become damaged and as a result more proteins pass into the urine.

Heart disease

Foamy urine can be a sign of cardiovascular disease. It concerns people who are at higher risk of a heart attack, stroke, or people who have problems with high blood pressure.

Urinary tract infections

An infection of the urinary tract can lead to an increased amount of proteins, which causes foaming.
This can be due to bacteria that are in the urinary tract. It can also present with lower back pain or nausea.
