Classic doughnuts are known from childhood to almost everyone. Their preparation may seem quite complicated at first glance, so most people would rather reach for those from the bakery. With this recipe, however, anyone can make fluffy, sweet doughnuts at home. What will we need for them?
- 500 ml milk
- 11 g dry yeast
- 125 g butter or margarine
- 2 cups sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 2 eggs
- water
- flour
Mix the milk with a little warm water. Add the yeast and sugar, then let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the yeast to activate. In the prepared mixture, whisk in the eggs, add the softened butter or margarine and salt. You can also add vanilla extract. Beat everything thoroughly so there are no lumps in the dough.
The dough should have a medium consistency
Slowly add the sifted flour. There should be roughly 400–600 grams of flour, in short enough to form a sticky mass which you will then knead together with the remaining flour on the board or in a bowl. As a result, the dough should have a medium consistency — not too firm, not too liquid and sticky. Make sure the dough is well worked and smooth.
Cover the finished mixture with cling film and leave it in a warm place. Due to the yeast, it should roughly double in volume after about an hour. Roll out the risen dough on a floured board and cut out medium-sized circles using a glass or cutter. Let the cut doughnuts stand again for a while until they increase in size a bit more. Fry them golden in vegetable oil on both sides.
Fill to your taste
After frying, fill the doughnuts with jam, chocolate cream or another sweet filling of your choice. Use a pastry filling syringe or a bag for this. The resulting doughnuts should be fluffy, tender and generously filled. You can sprinkle powdered sugar on top if you prefer them very sweet. They are best fresh as an excellent snack with coffee, hot chocolate or tea.
