Whether it’s winter or léto, you can always have some kind of accident or begin to feel pain. In such a case a cooling compress would certainly come in handy. If you don’t want to unnecessarily thaw the vegetables you have in the freezer, you can use a simple method. Thanks to it you will no longer spend a lot of money on special compresses that you can get at the pharmacy. Besides, you can always have them on hand.

What ingredients will we need?

If pain strikes you at night, you don’t have the option to go and buy a cooling compress at the pharmacy. In that case it’s useful to have these three things on hand:

  • An airtight sealable bag,
  • Dishwashing liquid (any – even the cheapest will do),
  • 60 ml of alcohol.

Preparing this cooling compress is very simple: just mix the dishwashing liquid with the alcohol. Pour the resulting mixture into the sealable bag and close it carefully. For it to work properly, the bag needs to be filled three-quarters full. Squeeze out as much air as possible from the closed bag. Place the bag in the freezer.

Ingredients can be substituted

If for some reason you don’t have dishwashing liquid at home, or you have liquid laundry detergent or another mixture with the same proportion of water, you can use that. To ensure the bag doesn’t leak, place it inside another sealable bag and close that one as well. If you no longer want to use this mixture, let it thaw and use it in the usual way – for example for washing dishes.

Malleable mixture

The mixture of alcohol and dishwashing liquid will never freeze into a completely solid block. You will get a pliable substance that you can easily adapt to any part of the body. An advantage of this mixture is also that it costs a lot less than the special cooling packs available in pharmacies. To prevent frostbite, it is advisable to wrap this bag in a towel or cloth before applying it to the affected area.
