Once the grater loses its sharpness, do you not hesitate and immediately throw it away because the purchase price of a new one doesn’t represent a very large expense? It’s a needless waste that only burdens the environment. Yet you have three different methods to choose from to easily and effectively sharpen the grater so it is maximally sharp again. In the article you will find tips on how to treat the grater with respect and give it a longer life in your household.

First method of sharpening the grater

Probably the simplest, but at the same time perhaps the most difficult method. And that’s all because of an unusual tool that not everyone has at home. We need a half-round file, which is ideal for the holes in the grater and with whose help we will file the individual holes.

Second method for sharpening

A universal method that may be suitable for anyone who has a basic screwdriver. We need a small drill that fits into the holes of the grater. Slightly drill each hole on the grater. The whole sharpening job takes no longer than 5 minutes. Be careful not to damage the grater too much, but over time you will surely find a suitable technique that you can adapt to achieve the best possible results. For the drill, choose lower power so you don’t wear down the individual grating holes too much.

Third tip for restoring the grater’s sharpness

The third tip is the fastest method because we only need simple sandpaper, which can be found in almost any hardware store and it’s always useful to have a few pieces at home just in case. The finer the better. Simply sand the entire grater 10–15 times with sandpaper and the result will surprise you. Although the result will be somewhat worse than with the previous methods, it won’t take more than 5 minutes and you won’t need any special or difficult-to-operate tools that you might not even have available at home.
