Among the cornerstones of the proper functioning of the body is the diet. A suitable diet has a long-term effect on our body, and the choice of foods consumed can slow down or, conversely, accelerate the ageing of the organism. It plays a significant role in disease prevention, including the feared cancer. Which foods are most effective in preventing cancer?
Nuts and seeds
Nuts, particularly almonds or Brazil nuts, are an important source of selenium – a mineral that is effective in preventing the development of tumors and also contributes to strengthening the body’s overall defenses. Sunflower and pumpkin seeds, in turn, contain vitamin E, which also helps boost immunity and protects cells from damage by free radicals. They are also rich in zinc – which is essential for overall development of the organism, supports the formation of new cells and strengthens the immune system.
Mushrooms
Mushrooms are remarkable organisms that hide a range of necessary minerals and other important substances. They therefore hold an irreplaceable place within traditional Chinese medicine. In addition to supporting immunity, they help support the functions of individual organs.

- Oyster mushroom
All of these mentioned mushrooms are rich in beta-glucans, which are valuable substances that serve as direct nourishment for white blood cells, on which the entire immune system depends. Many scientific studies show that these and other substances contained in these mushrooms significantly reduce the impact of the undesirable side effects of chemotherapy, among which are hair loss or severe nausea. Their effects do not end there – further studies show that as a result of consuming these mushrooms (directly or in dietary supplements), tumors can shrink by up to 70 %.
Fish
Fish, specifically their fat, are an important source of omega-3 fatty acids. It appears that these healthy fats have strong anti-inflammatory effects and also protect our body from hormones that are often produced as a result of inflammation.
Which fish are richest in these substances? In terms of these healthy fats, wild salmon, mackerel, tuna and sardines perform best. Besides omega-3 fatty acids, the fat of these fish also contains vitamins A and D, which are other important weapons in cancer prevention.
Purple-colored foods
If you want to prevent cancer, it is advisable to include purple-colored foods in your diet, such as eggplant, red beet, blueberries, plums, cherries or red grapes.
All of these types of fruits and vegetables are sources of anthocyanins – compounds responsible for their coloring. Anthocyanins are known for their ability to kill cancer-forming cells; they also support the function of important organs and strengthen immunity.
