Preparation of sweet bread is fairly time-consuming, but it is definitely worth trying. It can be prepared in a classic convection oven, but we can also use the so-called slow cooker. Its advantage lies in the fact that when baking at low temperatures it does not use even half the energy that a conventional oven would use, so it is quite economical.

The slow cooker is a practical helper

You will appreciate a slow cooker especially if you do not like spending time cooking several ingredients separately. You simply toss all the ingredients into it, set the desired temperature and attend to something else. Many cookers also feature a practical timer that switches them off after the selected time has elapsed.

The slow cooker works at low temperatures. For this recipe it is ideal to set it to about 80–90 °C and bake for several hours, which helps the prepared dish retain more nutrients and be much tastier. For the sweet bread we will need:

  • 6 eggs
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Bread or a baguette

How to make it?

Slice the bread or baguette and place the slices in a baking dish. If the slices are too large, cut them in half. In a bowl whisk all the eggs, add the milk, vanilla extract, salt and cinnamon, and pour the mixture over the sliced bread.

Cover the baking dish and bake at a very low temperature for about two hours. The wait is really worth it; the bread will be tasty and pleasantly moist. It is ideal to plan such a breakfast for the weekend when you are not in a hurry and do not mind getting up a little earlier to prepare the treat. You can serve the sweet bread with tea or cocoa.

This recipe is somewhat similar to French toasts, which are made from toast bread, dipped in an egg mixture and then fried in a pan. Then they are brushed with butter and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Preparing sweet bread in the oven or in a slow cooker, however, will be much healthier and the resulting dish will retain more nutrients.
