Since its invention the microwave oven has been a constant fascination for its users. It is a great helper if you want to heat food, but you can also cook in it. Today’s microwave ovens are equipped with many smart features, some can even clean themselves.
Experiment with an ice cube produced interesting results
People around the world tried to see what they could put into a microwave oven to observe how items react to a change in temperature, which can be very high. Metal objects don’t belong in a microwave, so an ice cube was tested. However, after the experiment the ice remained almost intact in the oven, even though it had been exposed to high temperature.
In the experiment a woman took a bowl into which she placed several pieces of ice and then put it into the microwave oven. She set the timer for one minute and recorded everything on her mobile phone. When the minute elapsed, she took the bowl out of the oven and was very surprised. She found that although the temperature in the oven was very high, the ice had only melted a little.
The explanation is logical and easy to understand for everyone
Everyone asked how something like that is possible. With the explanation a YouTube user came forward. The explanation would be that ice is transparent, and also the fact that the molecules in frozen water are fixed and cannot move. That movement would cause the heating effect. However, if you put a little water in the bowl containing the ice cubes, you will find that it melts much faster, which is due to the water molecules that move thanks to the microwave radiation.
You can also try another simple experiment. When the power goes out, food in the refrigerator and freezer can spoil, because you never know when the power will come back on. There is a simple trick that can even save lives. If the power is off for several hours, the properties of the food in the freezer change, which is indicated on most frozen food packages you find in stores. Thawed foods should not be refrozen.
If you want to know whether there was a power outage, try this test
If you have returned from vacation and want to know whether there was a longer power outage, you can perform the following test. Half-fill a mug or other container with water and then put it in the freezer until the water is completely frozen. Then place a coin on top and fill the remaining space with water. Freeze again and wait to see the result.
After returning from vacation check how things look in the mug. If the coin is at the bottom of the container, it means there was a long power outage, because all the ice in the mug melted and the coin fell to the bottom. In such a case do not consume the food and throw it away. If the coin is in its place, in the middle of the mug, it means the food is fine. You don’t have to be afraid to cook your favorite meal from it. The best option, however, is to have a friend or acquaintance who will come to your home and check the food regularly.
