In the refrigerator unpleasant odors can accumulate after some time, even if you clean it regularly. A strong smell can develop that is hard to get rid of. However, there are several natural ways to clean the refrigerator so it stays odor-free for longer.

Chemical cleaning agents are not a good choice

They can contain dangerous toxins that affect the shelf life and taste of food in the refrigerator. Instead, use natural methods that are safe for food, so you don’t have to worry about consumption. Wipe the refrigerator thoroughly at least once a week. This way you can easily find out whether mold is forming or whether any liquid has leaked, which can start to smell over time.

Every food should be stored separately either in containers or in foil. After defrosting always wipe the refrigerator with vinegar water and be thorough. Vinegar neutralizes the odor and leaves only a clean refrigerator. Then wipe dry with a clean cloth, but do not rinse the vinegar from the surfaces. Otherwise it would not work as it should.

Also pay attention to the rubber parts of the refrigerator

The seals usually accumulate a lot of dirt. Always wipe them dry, otherwise they will deform. You can cut a lemon in half and place it on a shelf in the refrigerator. The lemon absorbs unpleasant odors, and then you can throw it away because it is no longer suitable for consumption.

Remove larger deposits or stains by soaking a damp dish sponge in vinegar and coarse salt. That will easily scrub the fridge. It is also enough to dissolve 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda in a glass of water to remove dirt from the refrigerator. You can put the baking soda into a small bowl and add 6-8 drops of essential oil. Basil oil absorbs odors very well and will give a pleasant scent in the refrigerator. Store food properly to save yourself cleaning work and later food waste. Some items are suitable only for the refrigerator and should not be left at room temperature.
