The fight with weeds is an endless problem that troubles many gardeners. Once you have carefully pulled them out, often only a few days pass and they return. They appear not only in beds among ornamental flowers and vegetables, but also in the gaps in paths and paving. And how can you get rid of them effectively, quickly and efficiently? The following practical advice and tips will help you with that.

Baking soda

For one of the basic recipes for removing weeds you will need a common ingredient such as baking soda. It is ideal for use on paving. If weeds are growing there, simply sprinkle them with baking soda and let it sit for a while.

Salt solution

You can also prepare an effective spray by boiling two cups of water, adding one cup of ordinary salt and simmering for a short while. This salt solution becomes a great spray against weeds. Just be careful to aim the spray directly at the weed plant so you don’t damage vegetables or other cultivated plants you want to protect from weeds.

Vinegar

You can have another weed spray ready in literally a few minutes. For this you will need ordinary vinegar and a sprayer. Pour regular vinegar inside and spray the weeds directly. If it rains, you will need to repeat this procedure roughly every two days. As the vinegar takes effect, individual weed plants will gradually die and it will also slow down any growth and germination of new weeds in the same spot.

Cover the area with cardboard or newspaper

Another tactic is to deny the weeds exposure to sunlight. This is a great choice especially for vegetable beds, where you simply cover the gaps between cultivated plants with ordinary cardboard or newspaper. Such secondary use of paper waste is moreover an interesting recycling idea. Regular mulching with either cut grass, straw or commonly available mulch bark is also very beneficial and additionally looks very attractive.
