Tartar sauce, colloquially “tatarka”, goes well with many dishes. It can be served with fries, croquettes, roasted or baked potatoes, but people also have it with fried cheese, schnitzels or various types of meats.
Most people buy it, although making it at home is simple
Homemade tartar sauce isn’t difficult to make and once you try it, you’ll never go to the store for it again. It has an honored place in our kitchens; you can also use it in spreads instead of healthy yogurt.
Once you try it, you’ll see that you won’t find better tartar sauce. The store-bought kind can’t compete either in taste or price.
Only a few ingredients are needed to make it
You can get the ingredients in any shop and you’ll know exactly what you’re putting into the tartar sauce:
- 2 eggs
- 2 dcl of milk
- 3 pickled cucumbers
- 1 onion
- 1 teaspoon of mustard
- 1 teaspoon of vinegar
- Salt and pepper
- A little oil
Prepare the individual ingredients first so you have them at hand. Boil the eggs hard and peel the onion. Take a grater and you can begin. Grate the cucumbers, eggs and onion and put them into one larger bowl.
It’s important to let the tartar sauce rest for a while
The following procedure is very simple. When you have the main ingredients in the bowl, add the remaining ones. Mix everything so the flavors and ingredients properly combine. Depending on the consistency you can add oil, but it’s not necessary. Then taste the tartar sauce and season with salt and pepper.
You can serve the tartar sauce immediately, but it’s better if you let it sit for a few hours in the cold in the refrigerator.
The individual flavors will release and meld together faster, and the result will be fantastic. What you serve the tartar sauce with is up to you. You can also improve it with other ingredients, such as herbs or a chili pepper. That depends only on your preferences. Store-bought tartar sauces are full of chemical substances that are not suitable for our bodies. When you prepare it at home, you’ll know you can enjoy it without guilt.
