Don’t know what the secret of the sodium solution is? Definitely read on! Cucumbers are a very popular vegetable that Czechs grow in their gardens. Little wonder — a cucumber is full of water and provides a very pleasant refreshment on sultry summer days. Have you ever tried placing a cucumber on your forehead on sultry days? Or a refreshing cucumber lemonade? And what about a tangy cucumber salad? For all of that, however, you need a high yield of healthy, juicy cucumbers. If you give the plants a sodium solution as a spray, the cucumbers will reward you with a truly large harvest of these beloved cucumbers.
Sodium solution as a spray and fertilizer
Did you know that the sodium solution not only supplies your cucumbers with the necessary nutrients, but also serves, among other things, as a perfect prevention against various pests that like to attack the delicate, juicy leaves of cucumbers? Cucumbers do not like an acidic substrate, and the sodium solution neutralizes it. In addition, it protects the plants from premature yellowing and increases their yield. Last but not least, it also shields cucumbers from pests that enjoy feasting on their tender, juice-filled leaves.
Preparation of the sodium solution
Preparing the sodium solution is very easy and you don’t need anything special. You will need only 4 tablespoons of baking soda, which must be dissolved in 10 liters of lukewarm water and stirred well. To this single batch of sodium solution you can if necessary add 3–4 drops of iodine, which will help the cucumbers set flowers, and thus you will achieve a higher yield. The method of fertilizing cucumbers with this solution is not complicated at all. With most fertilizers it is necessary to feed the plants every 14 days; this concern is eliminated with the sodium solution. It will be more than enough if you fertilize the cucumbers only three times per season.
The first time you should fertilize with this solution is at the beginning of July, the second at the end of that month, and the last time in August. Keep in mind that you must not spray the solution on the leaves if the sun is shining on them. The best time for fertilizing and watering is in the morning or evening.
