Did you know that radishes can be sown up to three times a year? The seeds can first be sown in mid-April into a greenhouse, when the daytime temperature is approximately fifteen degrees and nighttime five degrees. All summer you can eat delicious and juicy radishes. You can enjoy the last ones in November. At first glance radishes may seem undemanding, but to be large and, moreover, juicy, they need proper care and to avoid some mistakes.

Výživná zemina

Nutrient-rich soil will help you grow large and tasty radishes. But beware of nitrogen-rich soil or fertilizers. In such a case the radishes will be smaller and woody. If you want properly fertile soil, add humus or homemade compost to the substrate already in the autumn. You should also remember that radishes need and prefer loose soil. That means you will have to loosen it often. Also don’t forget to mix peat into the substrate.

The best time is early spring or late autumn. As a root vegetable it loves short daylight and also mild cold. This means that planting radishes during the summer, that is especially in June and July, does not make much sense. For growing radishes prefer a greenhouse or a shady part of the garden.

Zalévání

Regular and abundant watering will have a beneficial effect on the crop. If you want to obtain non-woody but rather juicy and large fruits, water generously at least every two days. There’s no need to add fertilizer with the watering. Fertilize the substrate, and that will surely be enough.

If you want to speed up the ripening process, you can use mineral fertilizers. Use them when the radishes start to form in the soil. Prefer a fertilizer rich in phosphorus or use the power of yeast. Such fertilizer will stimulate the growth of radishes.

Jakou zvolit odrůdu

Now it may be a bit more complicated to choose. Here it applies that you will have to try several varieties. Grow the one that suits you best. Among the popular varieties are: Duro, Risenbutten and Cherry.
