Are you troubled by insomnia or even a severe headache? If you often suffer from migraines, then we have a good tip for you. The great helper isn’t expensive medicines. Most likely you will find an effective natural remedy right in your garden. We are talking about wild lettuce.
In times when there wasn’t a pharmacy on every corner, people turned to nature for help with illnesses or pain. In herbs they found many positive effects on human health and often great relief from pain or other troubles. Among the most effective herbs is also wild lettuce.
Wild lettuce is being forgotten nowadays
Wild head lettuce, known by the Latin name Lactuca virosa, grows wild mainly in England and in North America, but you can also cultivate it in your garden bed. This lettuce works as a great aid against pain. It works so well that it can be compared, for example, to the strongest migraine tablets.
Wild lettuce is an excellent and effective substitute for chemically processed pain medications. In some countries it is even likened to opiates because it has strong analgesic and sedative effects on the human body. The main source of these positive properties is the milky sap found inside the stems and leaves. In many herbals you will read that wild lettuce is even attributed with morphine-like properties.
Wild lettuce is quite different from common lettuce
If you are worried that you might confuse wild lettuce with typical head lettuce, we will reassure you. Wild lettuce often grows quite tall, and during flowering it is accompanied by yellow blooms. In earlier times it was used as an effective sedative for various illnesses or, for example, after a difficult childbirth.
Besides relieving intense pain, wild lettuce will also help you with cramps. By preparing a tasty tea with an addition of the lettuce’s milky sap you can fairly easily treat most cramps. All you need are a few leaves and regular consumption of the tea every day. However, do not overdo the dosage.
How to prepare a natural treatment?
You can prepare the natural medicinal tea quite easily. Obtain or grow wild lettuce; harvest should take place at the end of summer. For preparing the tea you can use fresh leaves, and if dried you can still benefit from the herb’s positive effects during winter. Steep the wild lettuce leaves in hot water for a maximum of eight minutes. Then drink the tea while still warm in small sips. It is not recommended to sweeten the tea, as this reduces the herb’s effects.
