No one wants mice in the household. Such a small creature is considered a pest and can transmit up to two hundred diseases. Overall it doesn’t matter whether you live by a forest, field, in isolation or near a town. Mice get into your home, attic or cellar in a simple way. They can climb up the facade of the house or through a gap near the cellar. If mice are in the cellar, that’s still bearable, but if they get, for example, into the kitchen or pantry, that’s trouble. If you noticed that you have mice or even rats in the house, act immediately. Don’t forget that mice most often stay in damp and dark places. Or where there are food supplies, garbage, old unused rags and so on. These are places where mice can find warmth as well as food, which is why they hide in our homes especially before the coming winter.
Do a thorough cleaning around your house and inside the house
The best solution is preventive measures, because that is easier than solving the problem itself. If you know you have an uncovered sewer or some other pipe through which mice could crawl, secure it. If you have grains or other supplies in sacks in the cellar, definitely put them into plastic buckets or other containers and close them with a lid. The same applies to cleaning. Tidy everywhere, remove old rags and move around the whole house.
The kitchen must be spotless
Mice literally love flour and other supplies. Try to keep the pantry, and all cupboards or cabinets clean and tidy. Store supplies in airtight containers. Also watch out for open windows or the ventilation shaft. Mice like to crawl through those too. Keep the floor free of crumbs.
Check openings and other gaps
Keep in mind that mice are small and can squeeze through the tiniest crack. Most often these are gaps in the attic, basement, and so on. Inspect the entire house and seal every hole. Don’t forget the attic, especially if you have a loft. Mice like to gnaw insulation and build nests there.
Windows and doors
Mice most often get into your house through holes or open windows in the cellar, but they can also enter through an open window. A house wall is no obstacle for them. We recommend that you get quality window screens or preferably shutters. If you live by a field or forest, definitely consider this matter.
Poison
The best solution to eliminate the presence and breeding of mice is placing poisoned grain where rodents occur. Such grain or other poison can be bought in household stores or drugstores. You can try to make it yourself from flour, plaster, ammonia, pepper oil, baking soda and so on. And as a last option there is an electronic box that emits loud high-pitched sounds. These sounds are heard only by mice; people cannot hear them. It is an effective and non-lethal way to repel mice. You can also set mouse traps with bait.
