Surely you’ve encountered this too – you only have a few minutes to shop on your way from work, but you always get stuck at the fruit and vegetable section. It’s not the huge selection of food that’s to blame, but the plastic bag that you again can’t manage to open without blowing on it and sucking your fingers. Especially in today’s coronavirus times it’s important to maintain maximum hygienic protection, so moistening your fingers is out of the question and you can’t really blow over a respirator either. Luckily there’s a great trick that will make opening a bag no problem for you.
Gloves will make the job easier
In a world rocked by the COVID pandemic it’s not unusual to see shoppers wearing latex gloves. If you wear them too, you probably don’t have a problem with viral infections or with bags. The friction between latex and the plastic makes the bag stick to your hands so it will be easy to open. Another excellent tip is handling moist produce. When we talk about fruit and vegetables, you will often come across dewy bananas. Put them in the basket first just as they are, without packaging – this will moisten your fingers, and only then reach for the bag you’ll use to pack them.
Warming your hands also works
The easiest way to get into the bag is to warm your hands by rubbing them. Then simply take the bag in your open palms and move them in opposite directions; this will separate the open side of the bag and you can shop comfortably.
The new trend is eco-friendly bags that save nature and eliminate plastic waste. You can buy them in most supermarkets or sew them yourself. You can put all kinds of fruit and vegetables in them. If you set out to make your own, remember larger sizes too, e.g. for potatoes. The bags should also be made of a transparent material so the contents are easy to see – an ideal option is a fine mesh, which is also easy to wash.
