Gardeners and novice growers can cultivate beautiful rose blooms, but they must take careful care of the bushes. To keep such rose bushes blooming for a long time, you can perform several special treatments early in the spring that will help the roses thrive much more.
How to care for roses in spring?
Roses can survive without human intervention, but it will soon show. They will age faster, flowers will appear in minimal quantities, and old wood will appear that will not look nice. It is necessary to remove faded flowers from roses so they have the chance to bloom again. In spring you need to give roses a quality fertilizer and a good watering, but don’t forget to replenish them throughout the rest of the year.
Spring is the most important part of the year for roses. A radical pruning is carried out so that the bushes do not become overgrown. Old wood can cause pests or insidious diseases to appear on the bush. If you prune roses every year, the plant will rejuvenate and will bloom beautifully during the summer.
Keep the area around the bushes tidy and protect them from pests
Don’t leave any weeds around rose bushes; pull them out and then apply a spray against weeds, which will remove them easily and with little work. Fertilizing is also important. Roses need nitrogenous fertilizer. Make a hole near the bush up to 30 cm deep and pour 0.5 teaspoon of ammonium nitrate into it, cover with soil and water the bushes.
Don’t forget to treat roses against diseases and pests. You can buy ready-made mixtures in a sprayer in shops that you simply apply to the rose and you’re done. However, you can also prepare a pest-removal mixture yourself at home. You should spray these mixtures on the bushes early in the morning or late in the evening and always wear protective equipment such as gloves and mouth and nose protection. The bushes will then bloom beautifully and can delight you with their colorful flowers all summer. Even after that you need to take care of them so that the plants are ready for winter.
