As soon as the sun peeks out, it tempts us outdoors, but few people think about the necessary protection. Sunburn thus happens in no time and we only have to deal with the consequences. The problem, however, is that each sunburn damages the skin more and more and increases the likelihood of various problems, including skin cancer.

It is therefore essential to pay attention to regular application of sunscreen. Only this way can you effectively protect yourself from burning. But if it’s already too late for such advice and you’re already red as a lobster, we at least have a few effective tips on how to care for the affected area of skin so that it browns as quickly as possible and so you can at least somewhat reduce the damage.

How to fight skin redness

Approximately three to six hours after sunburn, a skin reaction appears. It usually involves redness, burning, pain or even itching. Small or larger blisters may also form, which burst and release a clear fluid. Signs of severe sunburn can also include feeling tired, lethargic, or even nauseous. Further harmful effects of solar radiation may appear years after the burn. Therefore, don’t rest on your laurels just because you’ve managed to extinguish the initial unpleasant symptoms.

What reliably works against sunburns?

  • Potato paste
  • Baking soda or cornstarch
  • Apple cider vinegar

If freckles or small pigmented spots also appear after burning, they can be very difficult to remove. This is a reaction of the skin to excessive exposure to solar radiation, which is sometimes already irreversible. If pigment spots appear, protect the skin even more and carefully use a cream with a high sun protection factor.

Also keep in mind that tanning leads to premature aging of the skin. The epidermis thickens, dries out, acquires a rougher texture and appears creased at first glance. Small wrinkles may become more visible, or new moles and skin growths may appear.

How to treat the skin?

First make a potato paste. You will only need two potatoes, a grater, a blender or a knife, and gauze. Wash the potatoes well, peel them, cut them into thin slices and put them in a blender. Blend the mixture thoroughly; if it’s too thick, you can add a little water and blend again. Spread the resulting paste over the burned area and carefully wrap it with gauze. Leave it on for 20 minutes.

The next step involves using baking soda or cornstarch. Mix one of the ingredients of your choice with cold water to obtain a thick paste. Apply it to the affected area and once you feel relief, you can rinse the paste off with cold water.

For the final remedy you will need a cup of apple cider vinegar, a spray bottle and a cotton pad. Fill the bottle with apple cider vinegar and spray it onto the burned skin. It may be a little uncomfortable, so don’t leave it on unnecessarily long—just a few minutes will do. Then wipe the skin with a cotton pad and let it dry on its own.
