Whether it’s family celebrations, meeting with friends or sitting with colleagues from work, each of us likes to enjoy a glass of a good drink from time to time. Most people have no idea how long it takes for alcohol to leave their body enough for them to safely sit behind the wheel again. Of course it’s much better to call a taxi and not drive right after a celebration. After a longer celebration, however, you may not be sure in the morning whether you still have anything in your system or not.

Blood alcohol

Remember that the police never sleep, especially at times when big events are taking place and people tend to have something stronger and then get behind the wheel. Alcohol abuse leads not only to fines, but also to traffic accidents where you can hurt or kill yourself and others. The effects of alcohol negatively affect the speed of your reactions and decision-making. The brain slows down, nervous restlessness increases and it is not possible to fully control its functions.

How quickly does alcohol leave you?

Of course this cannot be said in general, because the amount, alcohol percentage and the weight of the individual who drinks it are very important. Let’s look at a few examples. A large beer (4% alcohol) disappears from a person weighing 60 kg in almost 3 hours, in the case of a 70 kg individual 2 and a half hours. If you weigh 100 kg or more, it takes only 1 hour and 44 minutes. The more you weigh, the less time you need for the alcohol to wear off.

Do you like wine? Classic wine has about 18% alcohol. When consuming 300 ml you need, depending on weight, 7 hours and 50 minutes (60 kg), 6 hours and 43 minutes (70 kg), 5 hours and 52 minutes (80 kg), 5 hours and 13 minutes (90 kg) or 4 hours and 42 minutes (100 kg). As you can see, it’s not a matter of minutes, so you shouldn’t sit behind the wheel for quite a long time after a night of revelry. If you like to drink stronger spirits like rum or slivovitz, you can have alcohol in your system even 15 hours after consumption (when consuming 300 ml).
