Pelargoniums, or geraniums, are very popular flowers that adorn many balconies and terraces. They are easy to care for, but they can still develop problems, such as rot or pests. What should you avoid and how should you proceed when growing geraniums?
Geraniums can come in various shades
Geraniums are best known for their colors, which can have different shades. If you decorate your entire balcony with them, you can create a beautiful garden that everyone will admire. Moreover, they bloom for many months; you can still enjoy them in autumn. Growing geraniums is fascinating, but caring for them requires special conditions.
It’s never too late to start growing geraniums. They are hardy plants that will delight you with their flowers for a very long time. Between waterings you need to let them dry out so they are not overwatered. This is the first tip from all growers who have been enchanted by pelargoniums. You can support their growth and flowering by replanting. It’s enough to water them once a week, in winter however reduce the amounts by half, because the plants rest.
What to avoid when repotting pelargoniums?
A couple of weeks after repotting it’s good to slightly limit watering. The plant should gradually recover and also must be allowed to grow new shoots. You can also grow other plants on the balcony or terrace. One of them is the fern, which suits large containers. They provide a great shaded area that serves for rest and relaxation. You can leave them outside over the winter and next year the plants will wake up as if there had been no winter.
Colorful flowers are beautiful, but you can also plant small shrubs. You can choose the height to which the shrub will grow and then simply trim it to the desired height. Each year you can complement the shrubs with various flowers, which you can change annually. Some plants can easily survive the winter, but many of them you must store for the winter in a cooler room.
