Preparing a luxurious dinner that everyone is guaranteed to enjoy doesn’t have to take hours or require a long list of special ingredients. For this meat recipe you’ll only need a few things and ten minutes of preparation time, then half an hour for baking. Even so, it will amaze all the diners. Even the most demanding will ask for seconds. For the preparation you will need:
- 4 slices of lean pork
- 1 large onion
- 100 g hard cheese
- 2 hard-boiled eggs
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- Salt and pepper to taste
Score the surface of the meat
Wash the pork well and dry it, then score its surface in a crosshatch (checkerboard) pattern. Lightly salt and pepper the slices on both sides. Peel the onion and chop it into small cubes. Then spread them evenly over the bottom of a baking dish and place the pork slices on top. Grate the eggs together with the cheese on a fine grater. Mix them thoroughly.
Add mayonnaise to the eggs and cheese and season with salt. Mix the resulting mixture well again and spread it in a thick layer over the meat in the baking dish. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. When it is sufficiently hot, put the baking dish with the meat and cheese mixture into it and bake for about thirty minutes, until the meat is tender.
Try experimenting with the ingredients
Although the preparation is quick and simple, you will be pleasantly surprised by the result. If you like the recipe, next time you can try experimenting further. You can try different types of meat, for example chicken or beef. You can also add spices to taste and sprinkle the meat with thyme, rosemary, or sage.
It’s best to use a hard cheese so it grates well. Edam or Gouda will work well, but if you layer such a cheese with, for example, a blue cheese, the resulting dinner will have a slightly different flavor. If you want to make a lighter version, instead of mayonnaise try mixing the mixture with yogurt and flavoring it with a little vinegar, or use a low-fat dressing.
