Cucumbers are one of the most popular types of vegetables in the Czech Republic and especially during the summer months we really eat a lot of them. Especially if you grow them yourself at home. Growing them is not difficult at all, but as with other types of fruit and vegetables, you need to care for them the right way so they give you the maximum yield. Each of us wants tasty vegetables. Cucumbers, for example, are sensitive to temperature changes, and therefore you should provide them with natural shade, otherwise they can be bitter.
Basic rules
There are several important rules you should follow when growing cucumbers. The harvest will then be much better and the fruits will be tastier. Today we’ll look at a few simple and completely basic rules and steps that you should never forget. If you don’t follow them, you can’t expect a wonderful harvest. Let’s get to it!
What should you do?
After watering, the soil should be loosened a little so the water can reach the roots better. However, be careful not to dig too deeply. You could damage the base and the roots, which would certainly not help you. Cucumbers need a lot of water in the hot summer. But never water them with cold water. Always let it warm to room temperature so it isn’t such a shock for the plants and they will absorb it much better. However, you should also think about certain factors that may arise.
You must also think about the weather that could arrive during the summer
If you know you planted them in a windy spot, it’s advisable to plant cucumbers between rows of corn so they are more protected from unfavorable conditions. If you have cucumbers in a sunny spot, plant beets next to them to provide natural shade. It’s also ideal to use mulch around the roots to provide protection. In times of extreme drought, don’t forget to humidify the air around the cucumbers to protect them from mites and other pests.
