Strawberry jam or marmalade is one of the most popular treats you can spread on bread. Children and adults love it, even though today you can buy many other desserts and spreads. Jam is also great for preparing sweet dishes. Desserts like pancakes, sweets, sweet pastries or cakes will taste much better. Of course, you must have quality jam.

What will you need to make it?

To make high-quality homemade jam you will need:

  • 1 kg of strawberries
  • 200 g of sugar
  • lemon juice to taste.

That’s all. No gelatin, no preservatives. Only tasty fresh fruit and a little sugar. Lemon juice will give the jam a beautiful color that will make you want to eat it. If you want to make more jam in one day, use 2 kg of strawberries and the juice of half a lemon.

Method of preparation

First of all, you must sort the strawberries, rinse and dry them to remove excess liquid. Cut them into pieces and mix with the sugar and lemon juice. Leave like this for about 20 to 30 minutes and stir everything from time to time. Once the strawberries release their juice, you can put them on the stove and cook over high heat while stirring constantly. Don’t forget to stir them well, otherwise they will burn on the bottom and you may have to throw the whole mixture away and start again. That would be a great pity because strawberries are expensive and if you grew them at home, you’d regret the work, time and effort in the garden.

Cook the jam until the strawberries are completely broken down and the mixture thickens. Sterilize the jars and lids. Pour the jam into the jars, close the lids and let cool. You should store them in a cool, dark place, like other compotes and preserves. From two kilos of strawberries you should get about 3 jars of 350 grams each. Taste the jam before canning to make sure you like it. The preparation is also simple and any beginner can manage it. We wish you good luck and enjoy your meal.
