A headache can be a really unpleasant matter that can distract us from everyday activities. It can be so severe that you are unable to do anything else or even think about anything else. There is not just one headache, just as there is not only one cause of a headache. The sad statistic is that about 90 % of all headaches last longer than half an hour – and may even last several hours. Some people unfortunately experience chronic headaches – pains that never go away, never ease.

Temple pain

This is one of the worst kinds of headaches that can exist. For this type of headache, it is true that only one in a thousand people suffer from it. They usually appear on only one side of the head and are very painful. This pain usually also extends into the eye area, which can be very unpleasant. Treatment for this type of headache is so varied that it includes analgesics, nasal spray, or even oxygen therapy.

Migraines

This type of pain also occurs only on one side of the head. It can be a mild or a very intense pain, characterized by a throbbing sensation. Such a migraine can last up to 72 hours. Painkillers and antiemetic medications are usually used for it.

Allergic or sinus headaches

These pains occur when there is inflammation of the nose. They are usually accompanied by fever, facial swelling, and pressure in the forehead and cheekbones. They can be caused by complications of a common cold or seasonal allergies. Unfortunately, this pain rarely goes away on its own. Treatment may require antibiotics or antihistamines.

Hypertension

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, when already chronic (i.e., persistent) can also cause headaches. These usually appear on both sides of the head. Treatment is related to regulating blood pressure.
