A home free of dirt and bacteria is every housewife’s dream. A clean home also means a pleasantly scented home without using expensive, marketing-promoted products, or conversely products with chemical additives that endanger human health and the environment. So how to clean and scent the home? Prepare your own universal cleaning solution that won’t require expensive ingredients!
Collect orange and lemon peels!
To make a perfect and eco-friendly household washing solution you don’t need anything at the start except to collect orange and lemon peels. Citrus peels are the basis of the cleaning agent and will also beautifully scent the home. Store the peels in a glass container with a lid, ideally a preserving jar, and keep adding more until the jar is filled to the brim.
Vinegar will help infuse the peels
After collecting enough peels, fill the jar to the rim with regular fermented distilled vinegar. Seal it and store it in a dry pantry so that the jar is not in light or direct sunlight, and let it steep for 2-3 weeks. During steeping the vinegar will change color; with a larger amount of oranges it may darken. The vinegar will smell pleasantly of citrus; strain the vinegar through a sieve or a piece of cloth.
Using the universal cleaner
Now the preparation is ready to use for cleaning all areas in the home. Vinegar infused with citrus peels perfectly removes grease, can remove dirt and ingrained grime. Vinegar has antibacterial and antifungal properties and is excellent at eliminating odors in the home. Pour the vinegar preparation into a spray bottle, spray surfaces and remove the dirt with a cloth. The universal cleaner can be used to clean the sink, kitchen countertops and stainless surfaces, in the bathroom on the tub, sink or shower enclosure, and also to finish cleaning faucets from limescale.
