Sometimes it happens that you neglect the washing machine drawer for a long time and then discover that it is very dirty. By constantly pouring washing powder into it or pouring in washing gel, it can easily become soiled and this can cause the laundry not to be properly cleaned. So before you do the laundry, it’s a good idea to check whether the drawer is clean so you don’t have to wash the clothes twice. And we’ll also advise you how to clean drawers using household remedies.
Is it necessary to clean the drawer after every wash?
After every wash it is necessary to remove the drawer, clean it and put it back. If you don’t have time to clean it, leave it open so it can dry and air out. But if it is dirty, you will have to proceed to clean it. There’s nothing complicated about it; you only need a few agents that will easily deal with the dirt. There are several methods of cleaning the drawer. They are usually more complicated, because the plastic can corrode and change its color.
Many people use acetone or acetic acid for cleaning. While that does return the drawer to its original color, using these agents also has disadvantages – the sharp and unpleasant smell of vinegar, which is hard to get rid of. Acetone, on the other hand, can dissolve the plastic. However, there is an agent that is not only effective but also does not have such drawbacks – hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide can handle many kinds of dirt
You should keep hydrogen peroxide at home not only for when you need to clean something. It is suitable for treating small wounds and is also used in the cosmetics industry. It deals with stains and, unlike acetone, will bleach the plastic without destroying it. To clean the washing machine drawer you will need 50 ml of hydrogen peroxide, three tablespoons of baking soda and laundry soap. And how do you use this remedy?
First take a plastic bottle and pour the peroxide into it. Then add the baking soda, grate the soap finely and add it to the mixture. Mix everything thoroughly so the soap dissolves. The result will be a mixture that will foam. Remove the drawer, place it in the sink, and use a toothbrush to apply the mixture to the surface of the drawer. Let it sit for thirty minutes and spread the mixture with a brush every 5-10 minutes.
You don’t have to clean the drawer at all, suitable laundry products are enough
After half an hour wipe all parts of the drawer with a damp sponge. For places the sponge can’t reach, use a toothbrush. This cleaning method is not complicated; the drawer will be clean in no time and without much effort. Finally, let it dry and slide it back into the washing machine. It will look like new. You can also store the mixture for several days in a cool, dark place.
If you want to save yourself the work of cleaning drawers, you can pour washing gel into the cap and put it, with the cap, directly into the drum of the washing machine. Capsules are also used; they are filled with detergent and fabric softener and are also thrown into the drum. That way you don’t have to use the drawer at all. To clean the drum you can use vinegar, which disinfects and cleans, and your clothes will be thoroughly washed every time.
