It even worsens school performance, as surveys have shown. A study reported this and also confirmed that children’s behavior can change dramatically and they can be physically affected.
The study also evaluated other studies from countries around the world
Researchers gathered several different studies that were conducted in various countries around the world. They learned results, for example, from Canada, Greece, Japan, and Turkey. It’s only a fraction of countries, but the result was fundamental and very convincing. The scientists concluded that regular spankings affect children not only physically, but above all can worsen their school performance and their overall engagement in activities.
The negative impacts are quite logical. A child who comes home from school, admits a bad grade and gets a spanking certainly cannot feel loved. Children can develop traumas that will be difficult to get rid of. Parents should provide support and assurance that they will stand by them, whether something bad or good happens. Even today most parents resort to spankings, which help neither them nor the child.
Spanking definitely does not mean that a child will improve at school
If parents think that a spanking will make a child realize how to behave at school and what grades to get, they are definitely mistaken. The American Academy of Pediatrics stated that childhood spankings can manifest in adulthood as aggression, brain changes, and adults may use drugs or have suicidal thoughts.
Unfortunately, spanking is still a very common practice today. Parents may use it to prove their superiority, but children feel very inferior and incapable. Gradually, as spankings increase, they lose the point of studying. Even if they bring home a better grade, they know they will be spanked anyway and have no motivation to try to improve.
