Like the onion flesh, the skins are usually prepared when you have a cold. For example, in the fight against bronchitis you should use an onion-skin broth. It’s enough to pour boiling water over a few onion skins and let them steep.

Of course, we do not drink this liquid; simply wrap the skins in gauze and apply to the chest. This will help with coughing and the recovery of the respiratory tract. Repeat 3 times a day. If you are wondering what gives the peels their effective power, we will tell you right away. It is mainly the content of essential oils but also the presence of succinic, citric and malic acids.

Other uses of onion skins:

Skin problems – Onion has antiseptic effects and therefore reduces irritation – simply rub your face with an unpeeled onion and then wash the face with water.

Hair coloring – Yes, you read that right! Onion skins can dye hair! This method works best on light-colored hair. You need 30 to 50 grams of skins, which you leave in water for an hour. After an hour the mixture turns into a paste that you apply to the hair before each shampoo. The hair will have a golden sheen.

For hair growth – Onion supports hair growth. Hair grows faster, but above all is stronger than ever before. Boil the skins for a few minutes and then strain. Put the water into an empty shampoo bottle. Always gently massage it into the scalp before washing your hair.

As a flavoring – If you want to take advantage of the skin’s healthy properties, you can throw it into the soup while cooking and remove it before serving. This way you will extract all its nutrients.
