The retail chain LIDL will withdraw the non-compliant peppers from sale. Specifically, it concerns “White bell pepper, Lidl shelf, 500 grams, batch L41/07, supplier and company VITA-ZEL, spol. sro”. The withdrawal from sale is due to chlorpyrifos levels exceeding the acute reference dose.
What it causes
Chlorpyrifos is an insecticide that can disrupt hormones in the human body. It causes sleep disturbances, disorientation, or headaches. In rare cases, consuming this vegetable can cause digestive problems.
