Elliot Moore explains that we should not give in to hummus mania and he does not recommend consuming it if it is bought in a store.
The reason is that ready-made products do not use such high-quality ingredients and often have a much higher fat content, so you won’t get as much protein and will consume more calories. It is quite simple to prepare and contains a few easily available ingredients, so it’s worth making it at home.
Don’t forget the accompaniment
Although hummus is presented as a diet food, you can easily gain a few kilos from it. On its own it does not contain many calories, but the problem is the accompaniment you eat it with.
Whether it’s pita, pastries or bread, they add a significant amount of calories and can suddenly make you gain even more weight. Instead, it’s worth eating hummus with crunchy sticks of fresh vegetables such as carrot, kohlrabi, bell pepper, cucumber or celery. You’ll have a truly healthy and low-calorie snack or dinner.
