The medicinal effects of garlic are already very well known. But did you know that garlic skins also have medicinal effects?

The use of onion or garlic skins is no novelty in natural medicine.
Scientists have shown that the greatest concentration of useful substances is contained precisely in them.

Ancient healers already used garlic skins, for example for rejuvenation, and garlic was considered a remedy for old age

American physician and cardiologist Robert Atkins called preparations from garlic skins the best antihistamines capable of treating various forms of allergies.

Another valuable property – the ability to inhibit the synthesis of carcinogenic organic compounds – was discovered by scientists at the University of Pennsylvania about ten years ago.

The secret of garlic skins

Their most valuable component is the bioflavonoid quercetin. Under a microscope its cubic crystals are clearly visible. Thanks to the presence of this substance, garlic has an active rejuvenating effect.

Quercetin belongs to a small group of vitamins that support cell renewal, improve the tissue’s regenerative abilities and protect the human body from toxins.

In terms of quercetin content, fresh garlic skins rank among the top five (in second place after buckwheat).

Another important component is pectin

Its high concentration in a decoction of garlic skins allows the use of this remedy to lower levels of the so‑called bad cholesterol in the blood, as well as to remove harmful substances from the body.

Also among the beneficial properties of pectin found in garlic skins are:

  • reduction of the risk of cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases
  • stabilization of metabolism
  • activation of endogenous microorganisms that synthesize vitamins
  • beneficial effect on the lining of the gastrointestinal tract

Healers once made a strong tincture from garlic skins, which they used for anesthesia. They are also suitable for strengthening immunity during seasonal epidemics of viral and bacterial infections.

Extract from garlic skins or whole garlic is effective, for example, even in the fight against dandruff

Contraindications

Treatment with decoctions and tinctures from garlic is not recommended for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and children under 12 years of age.

Such natural remedies should be used with caution and under a doctor’s supervision by patients with diabetes and hypotension.

These remedies are contraindicated for patients with digestive problems and even if you do not feel serious health issues, the dose of the medicinal decoction should not exceed 4 cups per day.

Warning: Always let the garlic decoction cool to room temperature!
