The medicinal effects of garlic are already well known. But did you know that garlic peels also have healing properties?

Using onion or garlic skins is not new in natural medicine.
Scientists have shown that the greatest concentration of beneficial substances is contained precisely in them.

Garlic peels were already used by ancient healers, for example for rejuvenation, and garlic was considered a remedy for old age.

American physician and cardiologist Robert Atkins described preparations from garlic peels as the best antihistamines, capable of treating various forms of allergies.

Their other valuable property – the ability to inhibit the synthesis of carcinogenic organic compounds – was discovered by scientists at the University of Pennsylvania about ten years ago.

The secret of garlic peels

Their most valuable component is the bioflavonoid quercetin. Its cubic crystals are clearly visible under a microscope. Thanks to the presence of this substance, garlic has an active rejuvenating effect.

Quercetin belongs to a small group of vitamins that support cell renewal, improve tissue regenerative abilities, and protect the human body from toxins.

As for quercetin content, fresh garlic peels rank among the top five (in second place after buckwheat).

Another important component is pectin

Its high concentration in a decoction of garlic peels allows the use of this remedy to reduce levels of so-called bad cholesterol in the blood, as well as to remove harmful substances from the body.

Among the beneficial properties of pectin, which is also found in garlic peels, are:

  • reduction of the risk of cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases
  • stabilization of metabolism
  • activation of endogenous microorganisms that synthesize vitamins
  • beneficial effect on the lining of the gastrointestinal tract

Healers once made a strong tincture from garlic peels, which they used for anesthesia. They are also suitable for strengthening immunity during seasonal epidemics of viral and bacterial infections.

Extract from garlic peels or whole garlic is effective, for example, in fighting dandruff

Contraindications

Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and children under 12 years old are not recommended to be treated with garlic decoctions and tinctures.

Patients with diabetes and hypotension should use such natural remedies cautiously and under a doctor’s supervision.

These remedies are contraindicated for patients with digestive problems and, even if you do not feel serious health issues, the dose of the medicinal decoction should not exceed 4 cups per day.

Warning: Always let the garlic decoction cool to room temperature!
