Dear Mom
I went to a party where I followed your advice and did not drink alcohol when I was driving. I avoided it and drank only non-alcoholic drinks. Both because of your advice and because I know it is good, and also because I did not want to endanger either myself or anyone else in the vehicle. I know you care about me and so I listened to you in the other thing too – to come home early. I get in, start the car and we set off.
On the way I think about how your advice is always well meant and that you want me to return home to you safely. Suddenly something happened to me that I did not expect. I was on the main road, but suddenly another car crashed into me from the side with great force. The car of a driver who did not give me right of way and literally slammed into me.
Now I am trapped in the vehicle. I cannot move and there is a lot of blood everywhere. I do not hear the beating of my heart, nor my breath. I hear the words of a policeman who says that the driver at fault is under the influence of alcohol. I feel the rescuers’ effort on my body to restart my heart and vital functions. After tens of minutes they give up their fight and I hear only the clock indicating the time of my death. I will never return home again.
I want to tell you that I really behaved responsibly among irresponsible people. Among a number of those who also got into their cars, did not heed their mother’s advice and then sat in the car and drove home. And one such person crossed my path. Life unfortunately is not fair. The one who was drunk got away almost without injuries. Try at least to make sure he gets a heavy sentence in court. I was sentenced to the highest.
Give my greetings to our whole family. To father, and to my brothers. Keep instilling in everyone that driving under the influence of alcohol is wrong. I listened to you, but there are many others who did not. They do not heed their parents’ advice and subsequently destroy the lives of everyone around them. Themselves, their families, and in my case also all of you whom I loved so much. I am sorry that people are so irresponsible and cruel.
