A couple from Britain are very lucky! While on a trip to the beach they found a foul-smelling lump of slime. Unlike other passersby, they were not put off by the smell and took the mass home. Their clever action will bring them a handsome sum.

Remarkable find

Angela and Gary Williams were walking on a beach in Lancashire, Britain, when an offensive smell interrupted their peaceful stroll.

After a short search they found the source of this unpleasant smell.

A giant slime ball. A strange lump that looked like an Obito rugby ball and smelled like manure and fish guts.

What was it?

Most people would have stayed as far away as possible from such a stinking find, but the Williams wrapped it in a scarf and took it home. You won’t believe what treasure they found!

They recalled that they had once read about ambergris, which forms in the digestive tract of a sperm whale.

A sperm whale excretes it along with its feces and it then floats on the surface coated like a smelly clump. The couple suspected it was so-called ambergris, i.e. whale vomit, which is a highly sought-after and desirable ingredient in the manufacture of luxury perfumes.

They found a treasure

They wrapped the lump and took it home. There they weighed it and found that it weighed 1.57 kg. Its weight is half that of the ambergris that was also found in Britain in 2013. Its finders auctioned that one off for an incredible £133,000!

The British paper Mirror estimated the value of the Williams’ find at a handsome £56,550.

This price is only an estimate and could increase at auction. According to the couple’s testimony, the ball does smell unbelievably bad, but they’re happy to put up with it. Thanks to this fragrant find they will be able to fulfill many of their dreams.
