It is said that nails can reveal a lot about a person. And although that may seem like a tired cliché, there’s some truth to it.
White spots
White spots on the nails can be caused by a number of factors
A common cause is minor nail injuries. For example, getting your nail caught in a door or being hit with a hammer can cause white spots to form under the nail or, in some cases, stripes.
In other cases it can be a much more serious problem, which you will read about below.
What does such discoloration mean?
These white spots are medically called leukonychia, and why they form can have several causes. Either you caused an injury and the white spot formed as a result of impact to the nail bed, you inherited them, or one of your internal organs is not functioning properly — most often the kidneys. However, the most common cause is a deficiency of vitamins, stress, and a lack of zinc and proteins.
If you suffer from your nails being completely white, it may mean that your body is unable to absorb proteins and one of your internal organs is failing. If there are white parallel lines on your nails, you have a liver problem. In some cases it may even be cirrhosis of the liver, but it can happen “only” as a result of an injury. If you only have white spots or dots on your nails, it’s the most common form, which is not as serious.
If you notice something like this on your nails, it doesn’t have to be a serious disease or organ failure. However, it’s important that you include plenty of proteins and vitamins in your diet. Supplement zinc, which is found in nuts and legumes. However, if the spots enlarge, consider visiting a doctor. We should monitor our body; every day it gives us clear signs of what harms it and what benefits it. Do not ignore it. So be very careful about this.
