When a 33-year-old woman from France became pregnant again, she had no idea that her uterine wall, after having undergone five cesarean sections, was very weak.
What happened
Unfortunately during this pregnancy she did not notice any abnormalities, so it never occurred to her that something could happen …
When she was at the 22nd week of pregnancy for an ultrasound examination, her attending doctor was completely astonished when he saw on the ultrasound how the little baby’s feet and legs were protruding through the amniotic sac.
This phenomenon is called “uterine rupture” and it is a truly very rare condition, because so far only 26 such cases have been registered.
Ruptured uterus
This woman’s uterus was ruptured in one place, which allowed the child to get into this position.
This fascinating image, which captures the child as if it were trying to push the uterus out, went viral across the internet.
Dr. Pierre-Emmanuel Boue himself, who published the story, said that he had never seen anything like it in his practice before.
Why did it happen to her?
He also stated that this condition occurred because the woman had previously undergone five cesarean sections, which meant her uterine wall was not as strong as they had thought.
However, the doctors explained to the parents all the possible risks that can occur during the pregnancy, such as hysterectomy or even premature birth. Despite these risks, the couple decided to carry the baby to term.
However, at the 30th week of pregnancy they again had a completely healthy boy delivered by cesarean section. After the birth, the woman underwent another operation in which doctors stitched up the tear that had formed in the uterus.
