When Veronika Samchenko and her husband Evgeniy learned that they were expecting a second child, they were very happy. The couple already had a healthy daughter a few years old and they hoped that the next child would also be born completely healthy.
The child had a rare disease
Unfortunately, during the 21st week of pregnancy, during tests the doctor stated that the child had a very rare disease.
Veronika was devastated, but she decided not to terminate the pregnancy.
She was supported by her husband Evgeny and the whole family, who couldn’t wait to meet the new family member.
When Erofrey was born, doctors urged the parents to put him up for adoption
They said that a sick child would destroy their whole life.
The parents strongly rejected this advice because they could not imagine giving their own child to strangers.
Some friends held the same view as the doctors and were surprised when Veronika decided to return home with her son.
A year later the mother wrote a post on social media:
“Since the birth of our son there have been many interesting, but also small moments in our lives. We received many signs that told us he should be with us and live here. Down syndrome did not prevent us from raising him. Unfortunately, people ask directly whether, if I had known about it earlier, I would have decided to have an abortion. How could you do that? I learned about the illness already in the 21st week of pregnancy, but that did not change my view about giving birth to my son.”
Together with my husband we decided that if our son survives, it means he wants to live. One of the doctors even told me that I had given birth to a monster …
Proud parents
To others my son is a sick child. But we see him as a charming, beautiful boy who is a true miracle.
He has something we lack – a kind of inner strength. He has so much love and warmth in his small body that he can give it to the whole world.
His eyes say more than a thousand words and that charming smile is the most beautiful in the world.
There is no doubt that he is different from everyone else, but we are very proud that he is our son.
He radiates positive energy and we draw joy from him and are able to use it every day. We still want more and more.
I always want to go back to him to hug him and give him a kiss. We know that most people are skeptical about him, but once they get to know him, they change their mind.
I believe that because of that they have changed too. They’ve changed, just like our whole family.
He spreads energy
I can proudly say as a mother that I have the most beautiful son in the world. I am happy and joyful that my son is alive.
Day by day he grows and every day he gives us a big smile. He is a beloved child.
He is currently one year old and can sit up, crawl, and walk with a little help – just like any child his age.
We were told that caring for a sick child would consume all free time, energy and a lot of money. But believe me, it’s completely different, because from it we get so much energy that we have the strength to hike in the mountains.
I am the mother of wonderful children. I love my family more than anything in the world.
