Did you know that egg quality can vary? When it’s in the shell, you can’t tell anything. Only after cracking it open can you notice the differences. If you don’t really know what to look for, all the eggs may seem the same to you. The reality, however, is that there are several signs by which you can easily tell which hen laid the egg and, for example, what her health was like.
The yolk determines everything
The basic part of the egg, which got its name precisely from its color. However, it can have several shades, which is good to know.
Remember: the darker it is and the firmer the consistency, the better
It clearly indicates that the chicken had enough varied food and also enough exercise. The quality of eggs from such a chicken is therefore guaranteed. On the other hand, if the color is light and it does not have a completely firm consistency, its taste may not be worth much either.
Find out what the hen ate
You can also tell that from how the yolk looks. If its color is vividly yellow, it clearly suggests that the hen ate mostly wheat. If the color tends toward a darker shade, that means the feed was mainly corn, but it could also have been alfalfa. In that case it’s good news, indicating the hen had a more balanced diet.
Egg quality also impacts our health
We must not overlook the fact that egg quality has a big impact on our health. That’s why we should always look for the best. If they are of good quality, it’s guaranteed they contain important vitamins such as A, D, E, and K. They are also rich in the right nutrients. However, it’s worth adding that the taste difference is not that noticeable. Therefore it’s good to always inspect a cracked egg and from that determine which hen it came from.
You can try it yourself, and very easily
Try comparing an egg that comes from home conditions, from a backyard flock, with one that was bought in a supermarket, preferably on sale. When we crack both open, you can be sure that the difference will be really noticeable. In the color, consistency and taste of the yolk.
